FAQs
COMMON QUESTIONS
Are you SACAA licensed?
Yes. All our operations are conducted under a valid Remote Operator Certificate (ROC) - reference UASOC.AAD.0001-2014/G1472D. We operate under this ROC rather than holding it directly, meaning every flight we conduct falls within a fully licensed, regulated framework compliant with South African RPAS regulations and overseen by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).
Where do you operate in South Africa?
We are based in Centurion, Gauteng, with 50 km travel included in standard rates. We deploy nationwide - Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West - with additional travel arrangements for out-of-radius projects.
What is your lead time for drone operations?
We require 24–72 hours lead time for mission deployment - covering pre-flight planning, airspace notifications, and regulatory compliance. For urgent emergency response, please call us directly on +27 78 683 9758.
What drones do you use?
We operate exclusively on DJI enterprise platforms - including the Matrice 4T for thermal and inspection missions, and the Mavic 3 Enterprise for survey and imaging. All aircraft are SACAA-registered, serviced, and calibrated.
How quickly are deliverables provided?
Standard turnaround for processed media, reports, and data is 3–5 business days after mission completion. All data is client-owned and confidential - we never retain or repurpose your footage or datasets.
Do you offer monthly drone contracts?
Yes. Monthly packages are available for ongoing operations - security patrols, construction monitoring, conservation programmes and more. Monthly contracts offer better value, guaranteed availability, and a dedicated team.
Why can't I just fly my own drone?
You can fly your own drone recreationally - but the moment there is any commercial purpose, financial gain, or business outcome involved, South African law requires full SACAA licensing. Under Part 101 of the Civil Aviation Regulations, any commercial drone operation must be conducted by a pilot holding a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), and the operating entity must hold an RPAS Operator's Certificate (ROC/UASOC). This applies even if you own the drone outright. Beyond licensing, commercial operations require registered aircraft, a compliant operations manual, a safety management system, public liability insurance, and SACAA-approved maintenance procedures. The process from start to ROC typically takes 18–24 months and costs upwards of R50,000 in certification alone. For most businesses, engaging a licensed operator like UAS is faster, safer, and far more cost-effective than self-certification.
What are the penalties for not being SACAA compliant?
Non-compliance with South Africa's Civil Aviation Regulations is treated as a criminal offence - not merely an administrative matter. Both SACAA and SAPS are empowered to enforce these laws. The consequences can include:
Fines up to R50,000 - for operating without a licence, flying in restricted airspace, or conducting commercial operations without a ROC.
Imprisonment of up to 10 years - for serious breaches such as endangering aircraft, flying near airports without authorisation, or causing injury or death through negligent operation.
Permanent equipment confiscation - SACAA and SAPS are authorised to seize drones used in illegal operations. Retrieval is rarely possible.
Licence suspension or revocation - if a ROC or RPC holder breaches regulations, SACAA can withdraw their certification immediately.
POPIA privacy violations - if unlicensed aerial footage captures people or private property, additional fines of up to R10 million can apply under the Protection of Personal Information Act.
